An ensuing investigation revealed that Gordon and the woman befriended each other earlier in the same evening and were socializing. After several hours, the woman wanted to return to her Arlington Heights residence. Gordon suggested he walk her back home and accompanied her even after being told it wasn't necessary, according to police.
Gordon then grabbed the woman, took her to the wooded area, and struck her several times in the face with a closed fist. When she attempted to escape, Gordon dragged her further into the woods, according to police.
Gordon then removed some of the woman's clothing and used an article of the clothing in an attempt to gag her. He was in the process of sexually assaulting the woman when police arrived.
The Arlington Heights Fire Department responded to the scene to treat the woman. She was subsequently transported to the hospital where she was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures.
Gordon was on mandatory supervised release from the Illinois Department of Corrections at the time of the occurrence, according to police.
Gordon is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing Thursday and was also given a court date of Aug. 14.
