Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of Neighbor, 87, In Hoffman Estates: Police

The victim was found with cuts to his body, including his throat, following the incident.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A resident has been charged with four felonies following a fight with an 87-year-old neighbor last week in the 3500 block of Hillside Court. Michael Fleming, 35, is accused of attempted murder, aggravated battery to a victim over the age of 60, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery with great bodily harm.

The victim, who was found with cuts to his body, including his throat, remains in stable condition at Lutheran General Hospital.

Fleming remains in the Cook County Jail and is due in court Monday. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charges.

Police responded to a fight at around 3:39 p.m. Thursday, in the 3500 block of Hillside Court. The victim had called 911. Fleming, a known acquaintance of the victim, had already fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived.

Prior to being taken to the hospital by Hoffman Estates firefighters, the victim was able to provide responding officers with Fleming's name. Shortly after the incident, Fleming was located near Otis Road in Barrington Hills and taken into custody without incident.

Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no immediate threat to the community.
