Man Follows Girl After Shopping At Mount Prospect Walmart: Police

Police said the man tried to grab the girl's bag after she exited the store Monday and was walking alone along Centennial Drive.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Police are searching for a man involved in an incident with a 15-year-old girl Monday at Walmart, 930 Mount Prospect Plaza. Surveillance footage provided by Walmart shows the subject to be white with short hair and a mustache, wearing a long black coat and black baseball cap.

Police will have an increased presence in the area for the time being.

According to police, the girl was shopping alone at around 3 p.m. and noticed the man standing behind her at the self-checkout line. She then exited the store and began walking along eastbound Centennial Drive, which is located behind the shopping plaza. As she continued walking, she saw the man was walking behind about 10 feet behind her.

The man then rapidly approached the girl and reached for the bag she was carrying. The girl was able to hold onto her bag and ran away from the subject, who did not follow her. The subject did not say anything to the juvenile during the incident. No vehicle is known to be involved at this time.

Police are also urging parents and children to be vigilant and to call 911 immediately should a subject matching this description be seen.
