DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines man is facing three felonies, including aggravated criminal sexual assault, following a Sunday incident at his home. In addition to that charge, Benjamin Redzic, 49, of the 900 block of S. Sixth Avenue, is accused of felony aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint, along with misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and interference with reporting of domestic battery.

Redzic, who remains behind bars at the Cook County Jail, is due in court Wednesday.

According to police, officers responded to the home at around 10:3 p.m. Sunday for a report of domestic battery. Police met with the female victim in the front yard, who said Redzic hit her and said that he was going to kill her. Redzic, who was also standing outside, was taken into custody.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Redzic reportedly entered the bedroom where the victim was lying in bed. He then pinned her shoulders down and used his head to strike her on her forehead. The victim was able to retrieve her phone from the nightstand and told Redzic she was going to call 911 when he grabbed the phone, threw it, and put his hand around her throat while pinning her down by the shoulders with his other hand, according to police.

The victim was able to push Redzic off her and ran to her daughter's room to use her phone. She retrieved the phone, locked herself in the bathroom and contacted police as Redzic continued to say he was going to kill her. At the same time, Redzic was reportedly sexually assaulting her, but police are not releasing these details "out of respect to the victim."
