Man Kicks Cop After Library Booze Taken Away: Des Plaines PD
The Mount Prospect man was charged with a felony, along with other charges, following the Tuesday incident at the Des Plaines Library.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Mount Prospect man was arrested Tuesday and charged with a felony following an incident at the Des Plaines Public Library. Christopher Scott, 45, of the 1500 block of Dempster Street, is accused of felony aggravated to a peace officer, along with misdemeanor charges of resisting a peace officer, criminal trespass to property, and was cited for open alcohol in public.
At around noon Tuesday, police were dispatched to the library at 1501 Ellinwood St. for a report of unwanted people in the area. When police arrived, they spoke with the complainant, who said three people were seen drinking alcohol in the front breezeway inside the library and had since left.
Police were contacted a second time at around 2:40 p.m. regarding the same group in the same location consuming alcohol. As police arrived on the scene for the second time, the three were seen in the breezeway sitting at a table with an open bottle of alcohol clearly visible through a plastic grocery bag.

Police identified Scott, and all three were advised the employees no longer wanted them on the property. Two of the three complied and left the area, while Scott reportedly became aggressive and refused to leave. An officer removed the bottle of alcohol from the table and Scott demanded that he give the bottle back. Scott was told that he was in violation of a city code and the bottle was being confiscated. Scott refused to provide identification when requested and also refused to leave the property.
At one point, police said Scott stood up and tried to grab the bottle of alcohol from the table and when the officer stopped him and attempted to take him into custody, he started to resist by pulling his arms away from the officers. Once in handcuffs, Scott was escorted to a squad car and seated in the back seat. Once there, Scott used his right leg and kicked the officer in the thigh area.
