Man Puts Liquor Store Clerk In Headlock During Robbery: Mt Prospect PD

The Mount Prospect resident has been charged with two felonies stemming from the incident last week at Jay Liquors.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A Mount Prospect man is facing two felonies following a robbery at a liquor store in which he reportedly put a store clerk in a headlock. Ross J. Wilson, 34, of the 1500 block of W. Dempster Street, is accused of felony robbery and aggravated battery, as well as misdemeanor charges of battery and retail theft.

Wilson was released following the April 3 incident. He is due back in court on May 16.

Police responded to Jay Liquors, 1728 W. Dempster St., at 8:32 p.m. April 3, for a report of a retail theft and battery just occurring. While en route to the store, a description of the male offender was provided by 911 and police found a man matching the description, later identified as Wilson, in the area.

Police spoke with Wilson regarding the retail theft, at which time he reportedly admitted to taking multiple items of alcohol from the store without paying. Wilson also told police he had placed the clerk in a headlock and battered them while fleeing the store.

Video surveillance from the store was recovered from the store and they were able to identify Wilson as the offender. The clerk was not seriously injured in the incident.

The felony charges were approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
