ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The country honors the life and achievements of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with a national holiday in his name Monday, Jan. 16.
Although it's a federal holiday, most retail businesses around the village will be open. But it's always idea to call ahead and check.

Schools: No classes for District 15, District 25, District 59, District 211 and District 214 schools.
Arlington Heights Village Government: The Village Hall will be closed, and the Village Board's regular Monday meeting will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the hall's Board Room. State and federal government offices will be closed, too.

Arlington Heights Memorial Library: The library will be open during its regular Monday hours.
Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.
Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.
Trash Pickup: Garbage collection service will not be affected by the holiday.
