ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Authorities are investigating a shooting that happened near a park in Arlington Heights Saturday afternoon. Witnesses to the shooting say one man was pursuing two other men in the area of Creekside Park, 4100 N. Schaeffer Road, at about 2 p.m. when the two groups exchanged gunfire, according to a news release from the Arlington Heights Police Department.
It is believed between six and eight shots were fired but did not hit anyone and no injuries have been reported, police said. Authorities added that it appears everyone involved in the shooting knew each other and that it was not a "random act of violence."
Officers first at the scene of the shooting set up a perimeter. With the help of the Arlington Heights Police Department's K9 units, two people trying to leave the area through the perimeter were determined to be persons of interest in the shooting, authorities said.
