Participate in Glueckert Funeral Homes' Memorial Day Parade Honor Flag and Ribbon Ceremony

May 10, 2016, Arlington Heights, IL- For the fourth consecutive year, Glueckert Funeral Home invites veterans, their relatives and friends to join them in the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30. The parade entry is an “Honor Flag and Ribbon” procession honoring Veterans, living and deceased, as well as active duty members of the military. Area organizations also participating in the Honor Banner and Flag entry features Hersey High School Activity Groups, Cub Scout Pack 132 and Salute, Inc. “We’re excited to have all of these community partners joining us to help make this special event even more special” says Jackie Glueckert, entry coordinator. The Grand Marshal for this year's parade is Rear Admiral Stephen Evans, Commander Naval Service Training Command, Great Lakes, IL.

Each volunteer will carry a US flag in honor of the Veteran(s) they wish to recognize. A personalized Honor Ribbon

with the name of the veteran or active service member will be provided to each person in Glueckert Funeral Home

group entry. Upon entering Memorial Park, the flags and oersonalized honor ribbons will be displayed for

the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Ceremony. The parade steps off at 9:30 am sharp (please arrive by 8:45am for check-in for flags and honor banners) from Sigwalt and Arlington Heights Road. It proceeds 1 mile to Memorial Park. There, a ceremony honoring Arlington Heights fallen heroes and our nation’s heroes who also paid the ultimate price for our freedom from the Civil War through to the Afghanistan theaters of action will take place. The names of veterans who have passed away in the last year will be read aloud. Arlington Heights has been honoring veterans on Memorial Day since the end of World War I.

Residents are invited to bring a flag (preferably attached to a flag pole) to Glueckert Funeral Home at 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road on or before May 24th, 2016. Glueckert has a limited number of spare flag poles available. Also, we will record the name of the veteran being honored so we may customize the Honor Ribbon Sash to be worn in the parade. Afterwards, the flags may be picked up at Glueckert Funeral Home by June 4th. You may also donate your flag directly to the Arlington Heights American Legion Post #208.

At 11 am, the ceremony at Memorial Park (Chestnut & Fremont Streets) will begin. This ceremony includes; reading the names of area veterans who have passed away in the last 12 months, honoring Arlington’s fallen heroes - reading the names of the 58 young men from our town who died in the service of our nation – from the Civil War to Afghanistan and annual “Remembering Our Veterans” photo – after the ceremony.
