Passenger Killed In Prius Versus Semi-Truck Crash: Des Plaines PD

Police said the driver of a Toyota Prius struck a Volvo semi-truck in the rear during a Sunday afternoon crash.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines woman has died from injuries sustained in a Sunday afternoon car crash. Nazly Rodriguez-Munoz, 49, was a passenger in a car that hit a semi-truck in the rear, and later succumbed to her injuries at an area hospital.

Police responded to the area of Algonquin Road and Leslie Lane at around 11:54 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police found Rodriguez-Munoz, who was a passenger in a Toyota Prius driven by a 28-year-old Des Plaines resident, bleeding heavily from her leg. Responding officers applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Des Plaines firefighters arrived on scene and took Rodriguez-Munoz to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, police said the Prius was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road, approaching Leslie Lane, when it struck a Volvo semi-truck in the rear. The driver told police that the truck was parked along the south side of Algonquin Road with no lights on. The driver of the truck said that he was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road at a slow speed.

Police said the crash remains under investigation, with no charges at this time.
