Rosemont Police Says Child's Kidnapping Claim Was False: Report

ROSEMONT, IL — A report of a possible kidnapping in Rosemont turned out to involve a missing 11-year-old from Chicago who made false claims about being thrown from a vehicle, police said Monday.

CBS Chicago is reporting the child ended up at the Loews Chicago O'Hare Hotel, 5300 N. River Road, after being picked up at O'Hare International Airport and driven to the hotel in a shuttle bus.

Police told the media outlet the child had said to a shuttle driver that a parent was waiting at the hotel. He later reportedly told others that he had been thrown from a vehicle, prompting the initial kidnapping concern.

After reviewing video, however, police determined that account was false.

"After reviewing video, it was confirmed the juvenile was picked up at O'Hare Airport and driven in a shuttle bus to Loews Hotel, telling the driver a parent was waiting at the hotel for him," police said, according to CBS Chicago.

Patch has reached out to the Rosemont Public Safety Department for additional information.

The child was later reunited with his mother, police said. Information about the case was then turned over to Chicago police in connection with a missing-person investigation involving the child.

The case initially drew a response shortly after midnight Monday after dispatch traffic referenced an 11-year-old who may have been thrown from a vehicle near the hotel.

Rosemont police later clarified that no kidnapping had occurred.
