Raja Welcomes Appointment of Special Counsel, Emphasizes Ongoing Need for Independent Commission

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, a member of the House Oversight
Committee, released the following statement in response to the
announcement of former FBI Director Robert Mueller's appointment as
special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016
election:

“I’m heartened that Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein has appointed a
special counsel, especially one as qualified a choice as former FBI
Director Robert Mueller. Though the appointment of Mr. Mueller is a good
step in the right direction, I still firmly believe in the need for a
9/11-style commission on Russian interference. While Mr. Mueller will be
independently pursuing criminal investigations, there is a need for
broader fact finding in areas where the letter of the law may not have
been violated, but important questions of national security still lie in
the balance and must be addressed for the safety and security of the
American people.”
