Arlington Heights has a lot to offer its residents.

But, as we know, no city is perfect. And there is still room for improvement, even in Arlington Heights.

We recently took to the Arlington Heights Patch Facebook page to learn what needs to be changed or improved in Geneva. The responses were well-thought and diverse.

More biking options and designated bike lanes, many agreed, should be a priority.

“If one can wish..dedicated bike lanes on Arlington Heights road similar to the great layout they have in the loop,” Ron Skidmore said.

A separate bike lane and/or expanded paths at Lake Arlington was also important, residents said.

“People still don’t follow the rules,” said Joleen Graziano Veverka of the path at Lake Arlington. “Sometimes it’s crazy when walkers are in bike lane.”

Allowing dogs at parks in Arlington Heights and/or creating a separate dog park would be a great change for the village, many said.

“I was shocked years ago when I learned they (dogs) weren’t allowed (in parks),” said Betty Small.

Other areas of improvement, residents said, include: More vendors at the local farmers market, a better selection of restaurants downtown, food trucks and allowing backyard chickens.

“Yes to more vendors and an improved farmers market,” Judy Schmitt Zollner said. “I don’t understand why our market only has one of each type of vendor. At least that is what I had observed in past years. I haven’t gone recently to be honest since it is not quite happening like other markets like Palatine.”
