RMU Football Wins Big Over Haskell

The Robert Morris University football team improved to 2-1 with a 62-6 victory on Saturday.

The Robert Morris Football team steamrolled Haskell Indian Nations University for a 62-6 victory on Saturday, Sept. 8 to raise its record to 2-1 on the season.  The 62 points scored by the Eagles set a RMU record for points in a game, besting the record of 42 points set the previous weekend in a win over Olivet College.

The Eagles offense had an explosive day with a total of 605 yards (346 rushing & 259 passing) but only led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  RMU's TaDarrius Douglas scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 15-yard reception fromMatt Westerkamp with 5:57 left in the first quarter.  The Eagles tacked on two more touchdowns in the first half on aLamont Wims 7-yard run and Douglas' second TD reception from Westerkamp for 28 yards.

Robert Morris continued to pour it on in the second half as they scored six more touchdowns in route to their record setting 62-point scoring day.  Neno Jones-Fletcher ran for touchdowns of 14-yards and 21-yards and Dontrel Chancehad a 60-yard scamper for paydirt.  Touchdowns were also scored by Andrew Williamson (6-yard run), Jared Jackson(20-yard run), and Tre'Sean Mackey (6-yard run).

The Eagles defense played a stellar game too but Haskell broke up the shut-out bid with 8:54 to play in the third quarter on a 20-yard TD pass.  DaeVon Scarber led the Eagles defense with seven tackles while Angelo Parker had five.  RMU held Haskell to 254 total yards including only 70 yards rushing on the day.

Dontrel Chance rushed for 99 yards on 10 carries and TaDarrius Douglas picked up 97 yards receiving and two touchdowns on five receptions.  Eagles quarterback Matt Westerkamp was 15-18 passing for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

RMU hosts NCAA DII opponent Saint Joseph's College on Saturday, Sept. 15 with kick-off set for 2 p.m.  The game can be watched live on the Eagles Sports Network.
