Rolling Meadows Shooting: Woman Accused Of 1st Degree Murder

A 29-year-old man was shot in the chest and later pronounced dead from Thursday's incident.

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — A 29-year-old man died from gunshot wounds to the chest sustained during an incident Thursday in the 4700 building of The Preserve at Woodfield apartment complex on Arbor Drive. Claudia Resendiz-Florez, 28, of Des Plaines, is accused of first-degree murder and was arrested.

Police arrived at the scene at around 9:44 p.m. and found James P. Jones, who had been shot in the chest. He was later pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said Monday Resendiz-Florez and Jones previously had a dating relationship and child in common. Jones was shot once and the shot was reported by a neighbor.

At this time, this is an isolated incident with no threat to the public, according to police.

A witness has been cooperating with the investigation and the scene was processed for evidence.

Resendiz-Flores was taken to Central Bond Court (26th and California) for a bond hearing.
