SCHAUMBURG BOOMERS EARN RECYCLING AWARD
Leading Clothing Recycler USAgain Recognizes Suburban Baseball Team for Green Leadership
The Schaumburg Boomers won top honors from local clothing recycler USAgain for “Commitment to Recycling at Events” after promoting clothing and shoe recycling at previous events.
During the 2015 Green-T Award Ceremony held recently at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, USAgain recognized the professional team for its exemplary efforts in reducing clothing waste. Schaumburg Boomers, a minor league baseball team playing in theFrontier League, partnered with USAgain to place textile drop off bins throughout their stadium in Schaumburg on their game nights. Fans who brought a bag of clothing received a free ticket to a future 2015 Boomers’ game.
“It’s been exciting to see the Schaumburg Boomers take good sportsmanship off the field and into the community.” said USAgain CEO Mattias Wallander. “USAgain is proud to present these role models with a big win for their team and the environment.”

Accepting the award on behalf of the Schaumburg Boomers, company President Pete Laven noted, “More and more teams are implementing green standards within facilities. Baseball is a game that comes with social responsibilities. Being aware of our impact on the environment gives more meaning to what we do and clothing recycling with USAgain has been an easy way to include our fans.”
The Green-T Awards reward individuals and organizations that support recycling and sustainability in Illinois. USAgain believes that recognizing the efforts of green leadership encourages environmental stewardship at all levels. In partnerships with cities, local businesses and non-profit organizations - including schools, churches, fire stations, humane societies and youth groups - USAgain hosts 1,100 recycling bins in the Chicagoland area that diverted seven million pounds of textiles from going into landfills in 2014 alone.
