Schaumburg Cancels Septemberfest Due To Coronavirus

The annual Labor Day festival had been scheduled for Sept. 5-7.

SCHAUMBURG, IL —Every year, Septemberfest brings an estimated 250,000 people over the course of the three-day Labor Day weekend to Schaumburg. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that won't be the case this year. Village officials made the difficult announcement Thursday.

"The cancellation of our festival is certainly disappointing, not only for the individuals who work hard to plan and organize our 3-day event every year, but it is also a source of pride for the countless residents and visitors who look forward to celebrating the end of summer in Schaumburg with food, music and fun," Schaumburg Village President Tom Dailly said in a press release.

The festival had been planned for Sept. 5-7. The decision to cancel was made in part due to large gatherings currently not permitted and given that the timetable is uncertain when Illinois will reach Phase 5 status of Gov. Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan. Phase 5 allows for festivals to be permitted with new safety guidance and procedures.
