Schaumburg High School Football Player Critically Injured During Game

SCHAUMBURG, IL — A Schaumburg High School football player was hospitalized in critical condition after being injured during Friday night's game at Antioch High School, according to fire officials.

The Antioch Fire Department said its standby football medic crew was called onto the field at about 9 p.m. to treat the injured player.

Firefighters assessed the student alongside athletic training staff from both Antioch High School and Schaumburg High School. Because of the severity of the injuries, crews requested additional resources and ground transportation, according to Battalion Chief Tim Taylor.

LifeNet was initially contacted for a medical helicopter, but air transportation was ruled out because of estimated arrival times and potential weather conditions, Taylor said.

The student was instead taken by ambulance to Condell Medical Center, where the player was admitted in critical condition and immediately taken for a CT scan.

The fire department did not release details about the nature of the injury.

Township High School District 211 said it had no additional information to release.

“Out of respect for the student and the family, the District will not provide further comment,” the district said in a statement to Patch.

Taylor thanked the training staffs from both schools for their response.

“We sincerely thank the training staff from both teams for their rapid response, assistance, and dedication to player safety,” he said.
