Serial Sex Offender, 85, Charged Following 'Extensive Investigation': Arlington Heights PD

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A serial sex offender, who has previous convictions locally and in Arizona, has been arrested following an "extensive investigation." Sky Findlay, 85, of Phoenix, Arizona, is being charged with two counts of felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Findlay will remain in custody of the Cook County Sheriff's Office pending trial. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the charges.

Findlay was extradited from the Maricopa County Jail in Arizona by the Arlington Heights Police Department Thursday, in accordance with an arrest warrant.

In April, detectives obtained "significant details" to reopen an investigation. A criminal investigation was initiated years earlier following information received from the Department of Children and Family Services alleging Findlay had committed sexual-based crimes against children.

Police said the renewed investigation identified "compelling evidence" indicating Findlay engaged in multiple incidents of predatory criminal sexual assault with minor victims. While this investigation was ongoing, Findlay was serving a prison sentence in Arizona following a conviction related to child
sex crimes in that state.

Findlay, a registered sex offender, previously served a six-year prison sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections following a 1987 arrest by Arlington Heights police for the aggravated criminal sexual abuse and the aggravated criminal sexual assault of two children.

According to a 1989 Chicago Tribune article, Findlay was a math teacher at South Junior High School (now South Middle School) in Arlington Heights prior to his conviction for molesting his daughter's 9-year-old playmate at a public swimming pool. Findlay, who was 49 at the time, was convicted of two felonies.
