Shooting After Fight Not A 'Random Act': Mount Prospect PD

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Police are continuing to investigate a shooting and are now saying the Sunday night incident "does not appear to be a random act." A male was shot in the leg following an altercation and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

At 7:23 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of North Maple Street for an unknown after neighbors heard someone yelling for help. When police arrived, they were told a firework or gunshot had been heard. Soon thereafter, they found a male with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to the hospital.

A preliminary investigation into the incident has revealed that a male suspect, who was wearing a reflective vest, approached a home in the 100 block of North Maple Street and made contact with the homeowner at the door. A second male suspect was waiting in the driveway. After an altercation ensued, the male at the door shot the homeowner in the leg. The two offenders then ran to a dark-colored SUV parked on the street and fled the area.

Police said the SUV was last seen traveling south on Maple Street. Crime scene technicians collected evidence from the scene, which they say show that the incident was not random.

The shooter is described as a white or Hispanic, middle-aged, approximately 6 feet tall, with a manicured black beard, wearing a black ball cap and a reflective vest.

Police are asking anyone with information or anyone who has any video footage that might assist with this investigation to call the Mount Prospect Police Department Investigations Section at 847-870-5654.
