Shots Fired At Laundry Room Window, Adjacent Apartment In Mt. Prospect

Police said an occupant of a minivan fired multiple shots out of the window of the vehicle during the incident earlier this week.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Police continue to investigate a drive-by shooting incident from earlier this week in the 1100 block of Boxwood Drive. At 8:23 p.m. Monday, police were called to the area following a 911 report of shots being fired.

As of Thursday, police said it is unknown if anyone was injured as a result of the incident.

According to police, two people dressed in all black and wearing black ski masks were in the area when a later model slate or blue-colored Honda Odyssey minivan drove by and an occupant fired multiple shots out of the vehicle. The Honda fled the area and the two people wearing all black clothing fled the area prior to the arrival of officers.

Detectives believe the two people dressed in black were the intended target of the shooter, but have been unable to locate them.

Officers searched the area and located two 9 mm shell casings in the roadway. Police also discovered damage to an apartment laundry room window and an adjacent apartment wall consistent with being struck by a bullet. A fragment of a spent bullet was located in the apartment where the damage was found.

Crime scene technicians from the Mount Prospect Police Department collected physical evidence from the scene and have sent it to the forensic lab for analysis. A resident of the apartment was not injured.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information or anyone who has any video footage that might assist with this investigation to call the Mount Prospect Police Department Investigations Section at 847-870-5654.
