South Middle School Gets Cleaning As Officials Wait For Update On Possible Mumps Case

Superintendent Lori Bein notified District 25 families Friday that a student at the school might have the contagious disease.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — South Middle School received a vigorous cleaning Friday after officials learned that a student could have possibly contracted the mumps, the Daily Herald reports.

All the hard surfaces in classrooms, bathrooms and other common areas were disinfected with hospital-grade cleaner designed to kill the mumps virus, the report stated.

Arlington Heights School District 25 Superintendent Lori Bein alerted families Friday, March 3, that a student at the school, 400 S. Highland Ave., had possibly contracted the contagious disease, but the case has not been confirmed. District officials were informed about the student Friday afternoon, and Bein assured parents the district would stay in contact with the Cook County Department of Health and update them when and if the student is officially diagnosed with mumps.
