Special Children's Toy Themed Light Display Unveiled Friday in Arlington Heights

The Arlington Heights Park District will be unveiling a special light display Friday evening at North School Park on North Arlington Heights Road that is meant to commemorate the park district’s 90th anniversary.

In keeping with the children’s toy theme of the park, the display will include a model locomotive engine with a design inspired by the Chicago and Northwestern’s engine “Pioneer.” The interactive engine is 16 feet long, 7 feet high and weighs approximately 300 to 400 pounds.

A 25th annual lighting ceremony will begin at 4:45 p.m. Friday. Over 80,000 tiny lights will illuminate the fantasy toy displays along with the giant decorated tree in the center of the fountain.

The first 1,000 visitors will receive a complimentary light-up reindeer nose. Also this year, spectators will be greeted by musical performances by the Hersey High School Dickens Carolers and Vibe Dance Company.
