Spent Shell Cartridge Found At Middle School: Arlington Heights PD
A student discovered the cartridge Thursday afternoon at South Middle School, according to police.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Police responded to South Middle School Thursday afternoon following a report of a student finding a spent shell cartridge on school grounds. An initial investigation determined there was no credible threat to the school, students or the community, but there was an increased police presence on campus during dismissal.
The incident was reported to school staff at around 1:30 p.m. Police met with school administrators and a K9 sweep of the school was conducted.
Due to recent construction activity at the school, police ave not ruled out that the spent shell casing was an expended powder actuated cartridge, a byproduct from a construction anchoring tool.
