Taco Bell, Wendy's Could Have New Locations On Arlington Heights' South Side
Developers want to build 2 fast food spots at Arlington Heights and Golf Roads, and the village is ready to work out a deal for the lot.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Trustees gave the go ahead this week to start working on a deal between the village and developers to build two fast-food restaurants on a site on Arlington Heights' south side that has been vacant for years, the Daily Herald reports. The Village Board voted 6-1 to allow staff to negotiate a sale of the village-owned land with the developers — The Twins Group, which is run by brothers John and Nicholas Kallergis — who are offering $1 million for the 1.4-acre lot at the northeast corner of Arlington Heights and Golf roads, the report added.
If a deal is reached, the Kallergis brothers plan to move their Algonquin Road Taco Bell location to the new site, which had been the home to a gas station, strip mall and restaurant in the past, the report stated. The developers, who own and run 42 Midwest Taco Bell restaurants, are working with a Wendy's franchise owner to fill out the space, the report added. The Taco Bell-Wendy's proposal estimates a cost of about $2.8 million to build the free-standing restaurants, and they would bring in around $3 million in yearly revenue, according to the Herald. If approved, the project could be completed by the end of the year, the report added.

The Kallergis brothers weren't the only developers vying for the lot, the report stated. The village aslo considered two other proposals for the area:
- a $1.2 million offer to move the Golf Road McDonald's to the lot and add dual drive-through service
- a $1.2 million offer to build a 9,780-square-foot strip mall.
Although the developers behind those proposals were offering more, village trustess believed they involved more risks than the Taco Bell-Wendy's plan, the report stated. Trustee Bert Rosenberg voted against the proposal, saying the lot's location as an entrance to the village should have something more appropriate and pleasing than fast food outlets, the report added.
