Thieves Steal 600-Pound Charity Donation Box in Arlington Heights

The charity box contained donations for the Kids Without Cancer charity.

A 600-pound charity donation box valued at $1,200 and containing donations meant for kids with pediatric cancer was stolen last week in Arlington Heights, according to a Daily Herald.

Police are searching for the culprits who they believe took the Kids Without Cancer donation box at some point between 8 p.m. on May 14 and 9 a.m. on May 15, the newspaper reports.

This isn’t the first time the charity has had their donation box stolen -- they have six taken since last summer, according to the article.

Steve Amelia, who works on behalf of the charity group, said it’s unlikely the thieves are going to sell the box for scrap metal, which would only get them about $25. Instead, he said. it’s likely the suspects will re-paint the box and set it up as a charity box elsewhere to collect and profit off the donations, according to the Daily Herald.
