TUTORING THE NEXT 11,393 ENGLISH ADULT LEARNERS

Read to Learn is Looking for Tutors for the Fall Semester

In April 2015, District 214 Community Education’s Read to Learn Adult Literacy/Volunteer (RTL) program celebrated its 30th year providing individual tutoring to adults reading below the 9th grade level in the northwest suburbs. During the past 30 years, 11,393 adult learners have participated in the Read to Learn program with the goal of improving their English reading skills. RTL continues to provide this service in the northwest suburbs and is currently looking for volunteers willing to make a 10-week commitment from September to December. Each class meets for 2.5 hours once a week at 13 different locations throughout the northwest suburbs. Those interested must complete an online application which may be accessed at ce.d214.org/readtolearn before attending the volunteer training. The one-day training is scheduled for August 28 and 29 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (attendance is mandatory for only one of these dates), at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. For more information or questions, please call District 214 Community Education at 847-718-7724 or visit the “Volunteer” page at ce.d214.org/readtolearn.
