Village Board Approves New Gas Station, But Rejects 24/7 Business Hours
Residents neighboring the proposed station and convenience store objected to the business being an all-hours operation.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Village Board approved the proposal for a new gas station and convenience store on West Northwest Highway on Monday, but trustees rejected the owner's request to make it a 24-hour business, the Daily Herald reports.
Residents in the single-family homes near the proposed station at 1706 W. Northwest Hwy. objected to an all-hours operation and submitted a petition to the board to block it, the report stated. The potential neighbors to the business worried that extended hours would severely downgrade their quality of life, the report added.
Stephen Chacko — the new owner of the location, which was the former home of a Marathon station — had agreed to only be open from 5 to 2 a.m. daily, the report stated. But trustees said they would only approve his plan to turn the site into a BP gas station and convenience store if the daily business hours were from 5 a.m. to midnight, the report added.

Chacko must now see if BP will agree to the new hours if the project is to go any further, the Herald reports.
If the proposed station goes through, Chacko will upgrade the 1,300-square-foot building's facade, add a fence and improve the grounds, the report stated. He also will be able to expand the convenience store as a village concession to adapting the shorter operating hours, the report added.
