Village Settles $35K Lawsuit Over Deputy Police Chief Crash

The police official was driving a village vehicle when he rear-ended another vehicle in November 2015.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The village board approved a $35,000 settlement in a personal injury lawsuit involving a traffic accident with the deputy police chief, according to the Daily Herald.

Deputy Police Chief Miguel Hernandez was driving his village-owned take-home vehicle in November 2015 when he rear-ended a vehicle driven by Lora Officer, the report stated. Officer's vehicle then hit the vehicle in front of her, and she was injured in the crash, the report added.

Officer filed her lawsuit in September, the report stated. The village board authorized the settlement at a closed session meeting Nov. 7 and publicly voted on it during the Nov. 21 meeting, the report added.
