Widow of Arlington Heights Man Killed While Biking Sues Driver in April Crash

The widow of a 48-year-old Arlington Heights man who was killed in April while riding his bike is suing the motorist accused of hitting him, the Cook County Record reports.
Elizabeth Tomasik filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against the driver, who is identified only as Jane Doe, according to the article. The lawsuit alleges the driver was following too closely and failed to reduce speed, drive at a safe speed, keep a safe lookout, be cautious and keep her vehicle under control.

The accident occurred near Golf and New Wilke roads in Rolling Meadows on April 11, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Konrad Tomasik, of the 200 block of Miner Road in Arlington Heights, was pronounced dead at 1:27 p.m., the newspaper reports.
The lawsuit is seeking damages that are more than the court’s minimum jurisdictional threshold, plus costs and expenses, according to the Cook County Record.

Konrad Tomasik, who immigrated to Chicago from Poland during his teens, is remembered by his friends and family as a ”gentle soul” with a “kind personality” who had “an uplifting quality about him,” according to his obituary.
