Will New Visitors Guide Attract Hotel Guests to Downtown Arlington Heights?
Officials hope putting the resource in rooms will lure newcomers to the village's shopping, dining and entertainment options downtown.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Could a new business and entertainment resource placed in hotels be as ubiquitous and useful to visitors as the little bottles of shampoo they find in their rooms? That's the hope of village officials who want put visitor guides into Arlington Heights hotels in order to lure newcomers to the downtown area, according to the Daily Herald.
The guide is part of an effort by the village to build downtown awareness, especially among hotel guests staying in the 989 rooms in the southern part of town who head for the shopping, dining and entertainment options in Schaumburg and other communities instead of staying in Arlington Heights, the report stated. This new resource would spotlight businesses about three miles from hotels located near Arlington Heights and Algonquin roads, the report added.
As much as $20,000 has been set aside in the 2017 tentative budget to pay for these new visitor gudes, which were part of recomendations from hotel managers this summer on how officials could keep guests in town, the report stated. Other suggestions included better signage, increased walking access and appealing to younger visitors, the report added.

A visitors guide left in hotels is not a new concept for Arlington Heights. The village created such a reference a few years ago, but this new version would be smaller and feature less text, the report stated.
