Woman Killed In 5-Car Highway Crash Identified: Illinois State Police
A driver, who resided in Palatine, was killed and three others were injured in a multi-car crash last week on Interstate 90 in Schaumburg.
SCHAUMBURG, IL — A 40-year-old Palatine woman was killed in a deadly crash involving five cars April 27 on Interstate 90 in Schaumburg, according to police. Carolyn Van Slyck, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of the late afternoon crash.
Illinois State Police have released the findings of an investigation into the crash. A tow truck was stopped in the busy eastbound lane of I-90. Behind the tow truck was a 2011 Toyota Camry, behind that a 2019 Lexus NX, and behind them was a 2013 Mercedes C300, the latter driven by Van Slyck.
The driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado failed to reduce his speed in time and struck Van Slyck's car, pushing it forward into the Red Lexus NX. That car was pushed forward into the rear of the Toyota Camry, which was pushed forward into the tow truck. The drivers of three cars were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the tow truck did not remain on scene after the crash.
