Sanchez Aguilar was in a relationship with a woman between December 2018 and December 2020. One night, the victim was lying next to the man on a mattress on the floor when he reached over and touched her genitals, Assistant State’s Attorneys Alexandra Storto and Stacey Wittman said in court.

"The verdict reflects the strength and courage it takes for victims to come forward," Storto said in a statement. "Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse is a profound violation of personal dignity and safety. The victim showed immense bravery by disclosing her abuse."

Sanchez Aguilar is due next in court July 9 for motions and sentencing. In addition to his prison term, he will also be required to register for life as a sexual offender.
