AURORA, IL — Two men were injured in a shooting Friday morning in the 2000 block of West Downer Place, Aurora police said.
Officers received multiple reports of gunfire at about 9:30 a.m. on the city's West Side. Initial information indicated the shooting occurred between people "associated with at least two vehicles in the parking lot area," officials said in an update.
Police found a 25-year-old man suffering non-life-threatening injuries as a result of a gunshot wound near the intersection of Downer Place and Edgelawn Drive. Paramedics brought him to a hospital, from which he later left on his own, officials said.
A second man with a gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital "a short time later." The man was also treated and released.
Preliminary information suggests the incidents were related and the shooting was targeted, police said. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department's investigations bureau are investigating the shooting. Evidence technicians processed the scene and collected forensic evidence, including several vehicles that were struck by gunfire, officials said.
Several nearby schools and childcare facilities were placed on temporary hold-in-place status "due to their proximity to the incident."
