AURORA, IL — A baby elk has joined the cohort of animals that live at Phillips Park Zoo.
The calf was born at about 3:30 p.m. June 6 to Aashi, an elk that is about 10 years old and joined the zoo's herd in April.
Similar to when the four baby falcons were born by Aurora City Hall, the city turned to the community for help naming the calf.
Through June 30, locals can choose between Chet, Barry, Benji, Kiran, and Asher — name options put together by zoo staff. The top vote-getter will become the baby animal's new name.
Visitors can see the baby elk by visiting the zoo, 1000 Ray Moses Drive, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Tuesday.
