Barricaded Suspect Taken Into Custody After Aurora Standoff

AURORA, IL — A person was taken into custody Saturday afternoon after they barricaded themselves inside a home, resulting in a standoff with Aurora police.

Authorities responded to the 100 block of South Edgelawn Drive shortly before 9:15 a.m. to investigate a report of suspicious activity, Aurora police said in a news release.

During the investigation, officers discovered evidence of a forced entry at a home at that location and encountered a person who barricaded themselves inside, according to police.

Authorities said the incident was contained to the residence, and investigators determined no one else was inside.

Negotiators and members of the Aurora Police Department's Special Response Team responded to the scene to help resolve the situation and persuade the suspect to surrender.

Shortly before 1 p.m., police said the suspect had been taken into custody without incident. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

South Edgelawn Avenue between Kensington and Downer was closed during the incident but has since reopened. Police and fire personnel briefly remained at the scene while the investigation concluded and the area was cleared.

Police thanked residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
