6 Aurora Seats Will Be Up For Grabs In 2027 Consolidated Election

AURORA, IL — Six seats in Aurora will be up for grabs in the 2027 consolidated election taking place April 6.

Voters will select an alderperson-at-large as well as representatives for Wards 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8.

Prospective candidates can begin filing petitions Oct. 19. The filing period will end Oct. 26. Once petitions are filed, candidates will have until Nov. 2 to file objections to nominating petitions.

The lottery to determine ballot placement will be held on or before Nov. 4. The exact date and time has yet to be determined.

The following are the qualifications for those interested in running for one of the open seats:

• Each candidate must be a citizen of the United States.
• Each candidate must be a qualified elector of the City of Aurora.
• Each candidate must be a resident of Aurora for one year preceding election or appointment.
• No person shall be eligible to hold office who is in arrears in the payment of taxes, assessments, fines and service charges levied or assessed by the city.
• No person shall be eligible to hold office who has been convicted in any court located in the United States of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury or other felony.
• Each alderperson shall be a resident of their ward at the time of his election or, in the case of filling a vacancy, his appointment, and during the time he holds office.
