1. This Kane County Museum Voted Best Suburban Museum (patch.com) — Aurora residents can take pride in the Aurora Regional Fire Museum, which was just voted the best suburban museum in the Daily Herald's 2026 Readers' Choice awards. Housed in the historic 1894 Central Fire Station on North Broadway, the museum has also earned multiple statewide honors for its exhibits and leadership while continuing to welcome families for hands-on fire safety and history experiences.
2. Rare Michoacán Mask Collection, 60 Artists To Be Displayed In New Aurora Public Art Exhibit (patch.com) — Aurora's downtown arts scene is spotlighted with a new exhibit, "Masks: Identity in Diversity," opening today at Aurora Public Art on East Downer Place. Residents can explore rare Michoacán masks, binational printmaking, and a growing ofrenda installation through Nov. 1, with local and international artists connecting Aurora to rich cross-border cultural traditions.
3. Opening day announced for this year's Christkindlmarket in Aurora (chicagotribune.com) — Aurora's Christkindlmarket at RiverEdge Park will return Nov. 20–Dec. 24 with more than 60 vendors, new food and stein shops, and free admission. The market at 360 N. Broadway will be the largest Christkindlmarket location, offering extended hours on select weekdays plus special Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve schedules for local holiday outings.
4. Aurora launches Mastodon Lake restoration project (chicagotribune.com) — A major restoration of Mastodon Lake in Aurora's Phillips Park is underway, with dredging, shoreline repairs, and new fishing piers and canoe launches expected to be ready as soon as next summer. Funded largely by a $4 million state grant, the $5.2 million project aims to improve water quality, protect fish habitat, and make the lake a cleaner, more accessible gathering spot for families.
5. These residential properties were the best deals for Kane County's in the week of Aug. 3 (shawlocal.com) — A recently sold single-family home on Foxtail Drive in Aurora topped Kane County's best real estate deals last week at $377,000, below the county's average sale price. The roundup also lists another Aurora property on Periwinkle Lane among several reasonably priced homes across Geneva, Elgin, North Aurora, and other nearby communities.
