Fiestas Patrias Festival To Take Over RiverEdge Park For 2 Day In September

AURORA, IL — The 13th annual Fiestas Patrias Festival, celebrating Mexican music and culture, will take over RiverEdge Park for two days this month.

The celebration is planned Sept. 12-13 at the newly expanded downtown Aurora park. The festival coincides with Mexican Independence Day.

Fiestas Patrias will feature live music, mariachi and local food vendors. Internationally acclaimed Banda Carnaval and La Maquinaria Norteña are among the musicians set to perform.

Proceeds from Fiestas Patrias will go toward funding scholarships for college-bound students of Hispanic descent who reside in Aurora. Scholarships are administered through the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley.

Here's a look at the schedule for other acts:

Saturday

• Gates will open at 3:30 p.m.
• Ballet Folklorico Quetzalcoatl will open the festival at 4 p.m.
• Los Creyentes del Poder will perform at 5 p.m.
• Grupo Furioso will go on at 6:30 p.m.
• An onstage ceremony will recognize scholarship recipients at 7:45 p.m.
• Banda Carnaval will headline Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday

• Gates will open at 3 p.m.
• Los Aces Del Norte will kick off the day at 3:30 p.m.
• Parade of Nations will perform at 4:30 p.m.
• Grupo Mandingo will go on at 5:15 p.m.
• La Fiera de Ojinaga will begin at 6:45 p.m.
• El Grito will start at 8 p.m.
• La Maquinaria Norteña will headline Sunday at 8:45 p.m.

Tickets are on sale, costing $20 per day for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Organizers said there is no guarantee tickets will be available on-site during the festival. Admission for each day must be purchased separately.
