AURORA, IL — Orchard Road was closed for several hours Tuesday after a crash caused a garbage truck to tip over and spill a "significant amount" of waste, Aurora police said.

Police and fire crews were dispatched to the crash at about 3:55 p.m. after the garbage truck tipped over while turning south onto Orchard Road from westbound Prairie Street, spokesperson Jim Levicki told Patch.

The truck came to rest mostly off the roadway but partially blocked the curb lane of southbound Orchard Road. At first, the driver couldn't exit the truck, but fire personnel were able to safely extract him, Levicki said.

No injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved.

The truck was fully loaded, so crews had to use multiple pieces of heavy equipment and make multiple trips to clean up the garbage spill before the truck could be turned upright and towed away, Levicki said.

One lane of southbound Orchard Road reopened to traffic at about 10:30 p.m. The truck and all garbage were completely removed by about midnight, and all lanes reopened.
