Additional firearm-related charges remain pending as of Wednesday, officials said.

"This case demonstrates the important work our Special Operations Group and partner agencies are doing to address illegal narcotics activity in our community," Chief Matt Thomas said in a statement. "The combination of drugs and unsecured firearms in a home with children created an extremely dangerous situation, and this investigation helped prevent that danger from leading to a potentially tragic outcome."

Diaz-Vargas appeared in court Sept. 2 for a detention hearing and was released from custody pending his next court appearance Oct. 7.
