The car entered a front yard and crashed into the porch of an apartment building, police said.

AURORA, IL — A car crashed Thursday morning in the 500 block of East New York Street after the driver pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, police said.

A red Kia Forte was driving west on New York Street at about 6:30 a.m. when the driver attempted to turn into a parking lot but pressed the wrong foot pedal, spokesperson Jim Levicki told Patch.

The sedan entered a front yard and hit the porch of an apartment building, Levicki said.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics evaluated a juvenile passenger of the Kia, but no injuries were reported, according to Levicki.

The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and failure to properly restrain a child.

As of 11:15 a.m., New York Street between Anderson and Root streets remains closed while staff from the division of property standards evaluates the structural integrity of the damaged porch.
