A 94-year-old Wauconda woman was taken to the hospital after her SUV sideswiped a school bus carrying four high school students Thursday afternoon near Wauconda, authorities said.
The crash happened around 2:50 p.m. near Route 59 and North Anderson Road as the Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 bus was preparing to turn onto Anderson Road, police told the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. The woman told authorities her brakes failed as she tried to slow down, prompting her to drive onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid rear-ending the bus.
The four students and bus driver were not injured, while the SUV driver was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Police said the SUV driver reported her brakes went out and an inspection indicated the brakes may have malfunctioned, according to the article.
