505 North - Barrington Artist Kelly Stachura At the Barrington Area Library
Barrington native and renowned photographer Kelly Stachura brings her works to the Barrington Area Library this month.
The Barrington Area Library’s “Gallery in the Library” is delighted to announce an upcoming exhibit and program featuring Barrington photographer and artist Kelly Stachura. Stachura’s exhibit, entitled “Opposing Forces,” will be on display at the library from September 9 through November 5, 2011. The artist has created a gallery full of pieces specific to the Barrington Area Library and visitors may be surprised to find themselves engaging with the artwork in unexpected ways and places. Visitors should bring a sense of play and be open to discovery – all is not as it seems in this interactive art exhibit! A reception to honor Stachura will take place on Friday, October 14 from 7-9 PM. Enjoy complimentary refreshments as you meet and chat with the artist while enjoying her work. No need to register for the reception and all ages are welcome.
Stachura will also present a special program on her site-specific works on Wednesday, September 14, from 7-9 PM. Attendees will learn about the artist’s creative process in conceptualizing and then creating works specific to the Barrington Area Library, in a show intended to challenge the community’s notion of what a public library art gallery is and should be. Artists, art lovers and anyone curious about innovative, out-of-the-box creativity should attend. Register for the artist’s program at http://www.barringtonarealibrary.org/evanced/lib0/eventsignup.asp?ID=6780
Stachura is a Barrington native, graduating from Barrington High School in 2001. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2005 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. For over 10 years, Stachura has explored her passion for photography through both commercial and artistic venues. Her portfolio has been exhibited in over 60 local, national and international exhibitions. Her work has received numerous honors and has appeared in prominent media sources, including Pioneer Press and Daily Herald newspapers, Quintessential Barrington and CNN International. Stachura’s ongoing commitment and dedication to the Barrington community is most evident in her role as co-curator of the Barrington Area Library’s Gallery in the Library, along with photographer Lisa Swarbrick. Her work in curating the gallery usually means bringing in the best of her peers in the local art scene, so it is particularly appropriate and significant that Stachura be honored with a showing of her own work at the library.
