Fatal 4-Vehicle Crash In Batavia: Montgomery Man Killed

Police say two people were injured and one killed while trying to help a disabled vehicle.

BATAVIA, IL — Police say a 48-year-old Montgomery man was killed and two people were injured after being struck by a semi truck while trying to help the driver of a disabled vehicle in Batavia early Friday. The four-vehicle crash, which claimed the life of Nicholas Ortiz,took place just before 5 a.m. in the 500 block of Randall Road.

Police say a car was broken down in the outside, northbound lane of Randall Road when the car and the people near it were hit by a semi truck. According to WGN, a limousine and a fourth vehicle were also involved in the crash, though police did not provide additional details.

Of the three people who were hit, one was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. A third was rushed to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.

As of 7 a.m., Randall Road was still blocked to traffic as crews worked to clean up the aftermath and reconstruct the accident. Police say they anticipate the roadway to remained closed for several hours.
