Authorities ID Bartlett Man Killed In Weekend Crash

The crash happened at the intersection of Harter and Scott roads in unincorporated Sugar Grove Township Saturday afternoon.

KANE COUNTY, IL -- A man killed in a crash near Sugar Grove Saturday afternoon has been identified as Jonathan M. Contreras Chapa, 36, of the 900 block Lakewood Drive in Bartlett, authorities said. A 3-year-old girl was flown to the hospital following the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Harter and Scott roads in unincorporated Sugar Grove Township at about 3:25 p.m., according to a news release. An initial investigation shows the crash occurred when a 2003 Acura was heading west on Scott Road and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Harter Road.

When the Acura entered the intersection it collided with a 2000 Chevy Venture that was heading north on Harter Road, police said. Traffic on Harter Road did not have a stop sign.

Chapa, the driver of the Acura, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger, Gloria Tovar-Quintero, 29, of the 500 block of Alton Court in Bartlett, was transported to Mercy Center Hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries. The back seat passenger, the woman's 3-year-old daughter, was taken to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora and then flown to Lutheran General Hospital. The child was in a child seat, police said.

The driver and passenger in the Chevy, Javier Bibiano, 55, of the 1100 block of Indian Ave. in Aurora, and Elda DeLaRosa-Acevdo, 60, of the 700 block of of Spring Street in Aurora, were taken to Delnor Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.

]The crash remains under investigation. No citations have been issued. Deputies have not determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash.
