Batavia Steak 'N Shake Shooting: Police Search For Gunman

An argument broke out in the drive-thru at the Batavia restaurant and one person opened fire.

BATAVIA, IL – Authorities are searching for the gunman accused of opening fire on another vehicle following an argument in the drive-thru of a Batavia Steak 'N Shake, 1901 McKee Street, Tuesday. One person was injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital, authorities said. The extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

Police were alerted to the shooting at 6:25 p.m. when medical staff at the hospital treated the male patient in the shooting for an apparent gunshot wound he said he suffered while in the drive through lane at the restaurant, according to a news release from the Batavia Police Department.

The shooting victim said the argument broke out between the occupants in his car and the occupant, or occupants, in a red sedan. A person in the red sedan fired numerous shots. The victim said he was hit once by a bullet, according to the press release.

The red sedan then attempted to leave the parking lot but ended up crashing into a parked, unoccupied car, police said. He then fled the scene.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday night.

The shooter is described as an African American male who had a beard. His age is not known, police said. Authorities did not know if anyone else was in the red sedan. The red sedan could have moderate damage to the front passenger bumper and fender because of the collision, according to the news release.

The Steak 'N Shake in Batavia has resumed normal operations.
