2 Schools Placed On Temporary Lockdown After Mill Street Incident: PD

Police determined the Thursday morning event was a domestic disturbance and localized it to one residence in the 400 block of Mill Street.

BATAVIA, IL — Two Batavia schools were placed on a temporary lockdown as a precaution due to police activity in the 400 block of Mill Street Thursday morning, officials said.

Police were dispatched to the area at about 8:19 a.m. for a report of a burglary in process. Officers were unable to locate the suspect, who they were told had left the area on foot, according to a news release. As a precautionary measure, Batavia High School and H.C. Storm Elementary School were placed on lockdown.

Officials posted an alert on Facebook at 9:30 a.m. asking residents to stay away from the area filled with heightened police presence.

Police determined the incident to be a domestic disturbance, localizing it to one residence in the 400 block of Mill Street. The lockdown was lifted as of 10:32 a.m. after the search for the suspect ended, officials said.

The incident is under investigation. There is no threat to the public, officials said.
