$2.7M Houston Street Construction Project to Start Monday

The roadwork will mean the street will be closed until late October or early November.

A $2.7 million roadwork project for Houston Street will begin next week and keep the road closed until late October or early November, according to a Kane County Chronicle report.

The construction project to create a more pedestrian-friendly downtown will make the following improvements to Houston Street:

  • widening sidewalks
  • new trees, plant beds and ornamental lighting
  • new storm sewers
  • creation of bump-outs at Water Street and Island Avenue

Drivers will have access to Water Street to cross Houston Street north and south, and traffic also will be able to use Island Avenue to cross Houston, the report stated. Businesses along Houston also will remain open throughout the construction, the report added.
