4 Batavia Firefighters Injured Battling AM House Fire
Residents and firefighters are OK, but about $175,000 damage is done to a Harrison Street home.
Four Batavia firefighters were injured while battling a 5:43 a.m. fire Tuesday at 308 S. Harrison St.
According to a Batavia Fire Department press release, four firefighters were injured on the scene, three treated on scene and one transported to Delnor Hospital who since has been released.
A Chicago Tribune report said the firefighters were hurt when one slipped off a ladder onto some icy stairs and went tumbling into the others.
All six occupants escaped the home, but one was injured and treated on the scene.
The fire caused about $175,000 in damage — $150,000 to the structure and about $25,000 to property within the home.
Firefighters responded to reports of a fully engulfed single family residence at about 5:43 a.m. Tuesday, and found a "significant fire on all three floors and fire through the roof on arrival," the release said.
The fire was under control by 6:30 a.m., and the last unit cleared around 10:30 a.m., officials said. About 55 personnel were on the scene.
The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
